Palm Springs

While most of the country I’m familiar with is under a deep freeze, we are in the desert thawing out with the ghost of movie stars past. Palm Springs was and is the getaway for the Hollywood stars throughout the years. There are palm trees and date shakes, because everyone knows that dates come from palm trees and dates make a great shake. We’ve been on hikes, gone shopping and sat by the pool. One of the great characteristics of coming from the Midwest is the warm and welcoming hospitality and this is one of the traits that makes Palm Springs a great place to visit. Other traits that are similar are the love for food and music. We ate at Fisherman’s Grill & Market, which is like the original Long John Silver (Denise wants to kill me for that comparison). I recommend the gumbo, fish and chips, and the linguine with fresh mussels and clams. For breakfast you have to go to Cheeky’s. They serve breakfast all day and I can guarantee that you can’t find one thing on the menu that is not outstanding. We finished our trip at the street fair which happens every Thursday night. Vendors line the street with fresh fruits and vegetables, lots of food and drinks and plenty of jewelry and crafts. We purchased local salsa (www.mysalsarico.com) for watching the Super Bowl on Sunday. I recommend you order some online. The fair takes place on the main strip and the smells of food and music will bring you back to your favorite summer festival. Thanks Palm Springs for thawing D and me out from our winter blast.
